CISSP CAT vs Linear: Strategy for the Adaptive Exam

May 29, 2026 · 5 views

Why CAT changes everything

The CISSP English exam uses Computer Adaptive Testing: 100-150 items, variable length, ~3 hours, 700/1000 to pass. The engine adjusts difficulty based on your prior answers, and crucially — you cannot go back. Every answer is committed the moment you submit it.

This means: read carefully on the first pass, do not rush, do not second-guess. If you cannot decide between two options, pick the one most aligned with senior-leadership thinking and move on. Speed without accuracy will land you in an easier item pool and a failing score.
